How To: Incorporate Wabi-Sabi Into Your Space

Embracing imperfection, impermanence and inspired by nature … we appreciate the Wabi Sabi concept in all its forms.

Within this concept, and somewhat of a trending design direction; we experiment in the natural, earthy roughness of each individual finish. The asymmetrical nature of the design, and the simplicity of the outcome and the historical, and very grounding nature of the palette. When we value these elements and add this concept through products and finishes into our homes / space, we return to nature and find beauty in organic and original form.

Wabi means to be miserable, wretched and lonely - state humans often find themselves in. Business of life and the challenges that come our way, wabi speaks of these trials and tribulations that are inevitable to our human nature.

Sabi refers to things that exhibit an aging quality, such as things that are rusty, worn, mature and tarnished. It also refers to the notion of tranquility, aloneness, and deep solitude.

Wabi Sabi is more a way of life and a philosophy rather than a style or a trend; which in turn creates a sense of timelessness when incorporated into your home. Through sustainable pieces i.e. linen fabrics, natural stones and raw or recycled timbers we place value and importance on things that are lasting, not temporary.

Additionally, indoor plants are a wonderful way to add grounding and a sense of mother nature to your indoor space. They’re unique in shape, calming in energy, and alive at the same time; circling back to perfection in imperfection.

Below, we have shared some of our favourite pieces from some of our beautiful suppliers. These pieces reflect the Wabi Sabi philosophy and successfully bring this timeless, and incredibly stylish element into your space.
